Ok. We'll be happy to define (or design!) the product together with you based on your idea. Of course that process is hard to guess in terms of timing and cost. We try to do it anyway...
Sketches are a good starting point!
We will need design sketches with orthographic views of the product.
Great! An existing physical model of your product helps to understand its complexity. We will ask you to provide us the model while we're working on the project.
Excellent! A digital model of your product is the best asset to speed up the duration of our modeling work. We're familiar with any commonly used 3D file format on the market.

What is the intended output quality?
3D models made for render quality can be modelled much faster than models for production purposes. Please note that the rendering itself is not part of this calculation (though we'll happily provide rendering services).
3D models made for prototyping don't need to have the same precision that is needed for production quality and therefore the creation can be cheaper and faster. Depending on your further roadmap it might be a good idea to already target for production quality. We'll discuss that in further project steps.
Great! 3D models for production quality need to comply with industry standards of manufacturers (mold makers, etc.). We will create deliverables in native file formats to keep compatibility and editing ability, that allows the supplier to optimise the parts for the specific manufacturing process.
