Chainsaw

For our long-standing client and partner, the design studio Tatic, we created a 3D model of a battery-powered chainsaw. In addition to building a complex solid model to define the plastic housing components, we had to parametrically implement a detailed surface texture for the handle area.

Challenge: grip texture

The so-called “dimple pattern” plays an important role in identifying the product series. This refers to regularly spaced indentations in the handle area of the product.

The key challenge in implementing this element, which serves both functional and aesthetic purposes, lies in evenly distributing the indentations across the ergonomically curved surfaces of the handle.

A sophisticated system of parameters allows us not only to distribute the more than 2,000 features of a typical dimple pattern according to design specifications, but also to adjust their depth and orientation to meet the requirements of the precision injection molding process.
