Door handle with digital access control

Tatic Design studio commissioned us to create a 3D model of a door handle that integrates access control electronics.

The particular challenge of this project lay in balancing the high demands for surface continuity and quality with the inherent limitations of the metal casting process. Rhinoceros surface data and renderings served as the reference.

3D modeling for aluminum casting

Using SolidWorks, we first integrated the Rhino surface data into the manufacturer’s component assembly and then parametrically reconstructed the design volume.

When implementing the volume model, it was necessary to adapt both the outer surfaces and the core element along the handle axis to the specified draft angle of the manufacturing process.

Thanks to the built-in analysis tools in SolidWorks, we were able to implement the design in a way that was appropriate for the manufacturing process.
